General Information about the Programme

The PhD Programme in English Language and Literature at Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University offers a broad framework of studies which includes literary, theoretical and cultural fields. The Programme will provide doctoral candidates with a thorough understanding in literary theory and criticism; the relationship between literature and historical/social and cultural contexts; the authors and works that have determined the course of English, American and related literatures. The Programme equips candidates with intellectual perspectives and scholarly skills to pursue a career in academia or post-doctoral contracts as well as to seek employment in ministries, the media and related state and private sectors.

Doctoral candidates are also offered a special elective module in translation, as a professional extension.

The PhD Programme requires successful completion of at least nine courses (60 ECTS) followed by a qualification exam, a formal Dissertation Proposal approved by the Graduate School of Social Sciences, three Reports submitted to the Dissertation Committee at the end of each semester, completion of Dissertation (120 ECTS) and its defence. The Programme is full-time, English medium with a minimum duration of eight semestres. Candidates with M.A. Degree are accepted to the programme.
